If you have a website floating out there with little natural traffic and you’ve been wondering about investing time and resources into a social media marketing campaign then this is my take on the various social networking sites and why you should throw your hat into one or two rings.
With so many social networking sites out there its easy to get lost in the woods, struggling to find your way around and find yourself camped out, talking nonsense with the social media fools, freaks and geeks sending postcards, virtual drinks and all those other latest social applications floating around the social media universe.
It’s essential to plan ahead to avoid failure in any marketing campaign but social media with all its’ attractions and distractions makes this task even harder. So, here’s what you need to do;
Number one, take a look at who you are before you start to look at others. Branding is essential to your success when using social networking platform as once you paint a picture of yourself on facebook, myspace or twitter you cannot change it if you decide you don’t like what you see. get it right from day one and it will pay big dividends down the road.
Second, research the social media platform before moving in and wasting your time and energy on a social networking strategy only to find that the type of people you are looking for dont use that particular social platform. Lets face it, with so many social networking sites out there and new ones shooting up each and every day, you should be able to find your niche if you look closely enough. A Google search should provide the results you are looking for if you need a specific niche for your business.
Finally, enter the social media party the way you would enter a room full of strangers. Take the time to look around and listen to what others are saying and don’t rush in with all guns blazing or you will be shot down like an outlaw. Twitter is a good place to start. Listen and learn before you start to tweet or nobody will hear the noise you make.
This is where the fun begins. Add value to the social media party. Entertain, educate and interract in a way that you would be happy with and the social community you’re speaking to will accept your networking efforts and listen to what you have to say.
